4 August 2026 marks a pivotal opening for applied science teaching in Ethiopia. A four-day Practical VR Training launched at Dire Dawa University under the EU- and Erasmus+-co-funded MaDE-for-UASs project.
Ethiopian Universities of Applied Sciences are charged with producing graduates who can solve real industrial and societal problems. That requires lecturers who can teach from authentic processes—using pedagogies and technologies that make workplace practice safe, scalable, and repeatable.
Opening voices
Project Coordinator Dr. Ephrem Tekle (Kotebe University of Education) framed MaDE-for-UASs as a bridge between industry and the classroom. He thanked Guzo Technologies for their commitment to delivering the intensive.
DDU President Dr. Ubah Ahmed highlighted tech-driven collaboration: immersive sessions enable lecturers to learn from experienced trainers, renew course delivery, and ensure students benefit from experiential learning.
What participants will build
Across the week, educators engage VR/AR foundations, simulation-based exercises, and instructional design pathways that convert syllabus needs into classroom-ready immersive activities—laying groundwork for cascade at home institutions.
MaDE-for-UASs is a three-year European–Ethiopian initiative bringing World-of-Work experience into UAS teaching through VR, AR, and simulation.
